The Beauty of Wedding Weekends

Weddings are often thought of as a single day, but in reality, they deserve so much more than that. They’re one of the rare times in life when all of your favorite people are in the same place, celebrating together. Lately, more couples are choosing to stretch their wedding into an entire weekend & I have to say that I’m here for it. There are many reasons why I love this shift from a single wedding day to a multi-day celebration, so let’s get into it!

More Time

This seems like an obvious one, but one of the most important parts surrounding a wedding is time. As a wedding photographer, I work closely with the couple and their wedding planner to figure out the perfect timeline & it’s always tricky to fit every single thing that the couple wants into a few short hours on a wedding day. When a celebration spans multiple days, everything feels less compressed. The wedding day itself doesn’t have to carry the full weight of the entire experience.

Outside of the timeline itself, you also want plenty of time with your favorite people, some of whom you might not get to see often. For many couples, friends & family are often traveling in from different places, so they’re gathering together for the first time in a long while. A multi-day celebration gives everyone the chance to spend more quality time together and truly catch up without feeling rushed. Instead of trying to fit every conversation, every hug, and every moment into one day, you have the chance to spread it out.

Welcome parties the day before, casual gatherings in between the big events, and farewell brunches before everyone heads out are all great ways to expand your wedding weekend. They create space to actually be with the people who made the trip to celebrate you.

Different Moments, Different Vibes

Each part of a wedding weekend can have it’s own unique vibe and energy. You might want to host a welcome party that’s fun and casual once everyone arrives on Thursday or Friday. Or you might be dreaming of an elevated welcome dinner that’s intimate and conversational. One of my favorite unconventional events that I’ve seen is a ‘farewell brunch’ the morning after where you indulge in delicious brunch food & get to see all of your guests one more time before parting ways.

Each of these separate events can have different looks and feels and all represent you in different ways. Capturing these different environments allows the story to feel more complete. It’s not just one version of the day—it’s a full picture of the experience, from start to finish.

Space for Personal Touches

Whether it’s a casual gathering at a meaningful location, a curated dinner with close friends, or a relaxed send-off the next day, each piece of the weekend can reflect a different part of your story.

These moments don’t need to be overplanned. Often, the most memorable parts of a wedding weekend are the simplest ones.

Photography That Tells the Full Story

Somehow, wedding weekends allow for a deeper kind of storytelling. There’s more space to capture not just the big moments, but smaller moments as well like interactions with more guests, the atmosphere of multiple different settings & the overall feeling of the entire experience.

Some of my favorite wedding galleries are ones where you can see the weekend unfold across multiple days and celebrations to tell a bigger story of the whole weekend. It results in a final gallery that feels more complete, more personal, and more reflective of what it was actually like to be there.

Choosing a photographer for these sorts of events is more than selecting someone whose work you admire, it’s about finding someone you trust to guide you through the full experience with care, intention, and ease. My approach is calm, supportive, and intentionally unobtrusive, allowing you to stay present while I thoughtfully document each part of the weekend as it naturally unfolds. If this feels aligned, I’d love to learn more about your plans.
