When you look back on your wedding photos years from now, the big moments will always stand out—the first look, the vows, the walk back down the aisle. But what can often get overlooked are the little details that help define the day—and trust me, you’ll want to remember those little moments just as much as the bigger ones.
As a wedding photographer, I’ve learned that the beauty of a wedding day isn’t just in the timeline—it’s in the details. The things you spent months dreaming up, designing, and curating deserve to be remembered just as much as the kiss at the altar. So today, I’m sharing a look at the wedding day details you’ll want to remember—and exactly how I make sure they’re preserved for years to come.
Why Details Matter
Details tell your story. They reflect your style, your values, and all the care that went into bringing your day to life. Whether it’s your grandmother’s ring tied into your bouquet or a handwritten note from your partner waiting on your getting-ready table, those little moments are more than décor—they’re memory markers.
I always approach wedding photography with the mindset that you’re not just hiring someone to take pictures, but putting your full trust in someone to document one very special day exactly as you remember it so that you’re able to relive it 20 years later and have all of the memories & feelings rush back. That is way more important in my eyes than just checking off boxes on a planned shot list.
Wedding Day Details You’ll Want to Remember
1. Your Invitation Suite + Other Stationery
Before the day even begins, your invitation suite sets the tone for the celebration. I always take a few minutes during prep to carefully style and photograph your paper goods—invitations, RSVP cards, save-the-dates, vow books, envelopes, and even other small details like custom wax seals.
* Tip: Ask your wedding stationery designer for an extra set just for flat lays, and keep them in a small box ready for me when I arrive! *

2. The Rings
Your rings are one of the most symbolic details of the day. I style them alongside your florals, invitations, or heirloom pieces to create photos that feel both elegant and personal.

3. Florals
Your bouquet and other floral arrangements are a huge part of your wedding aesthetic, and they deserve the spotlight. I’ll capture your bouquet, your wedding party’s bouquets & boutonnieres, floral installations, and table arrangements. Let’s be honest, wedding flowers are quite expensive & they don’t last forever, so you might as well preserve them through photos!

4. Getting Ready
These are some of my favorite quiet moments of the day. The champagne popping with your best friends, the dress hanging by the window, your shoes placed next to love notes, your mom buttoning the last detail of your gown—you’ll cherish these moments forever. I take a documentary approach here, stepping in when needed but mostly letting the emotion and energy unfold naturally.

5. Tabletop Details & Reception Design
You’ve likely spent a lot of time choosing your color palette, place settings, signage, and table design. I photograph these details before guests are seated—everything from escort cards and personalized menus to candles and centerpiece arrangements. These are the types of images that pull together the full narrative of your day.

6. Unplanned Moments
Not all details are physical. Some are felt—the way your partner looks at you before the ceremony, the tears in your dad’s eyes during the first dance, your best friend adjusting your veil before you walk down the aisle. I watch for those in-between, fleeting moments. You might not even realize some of them happened until you see them in your gallery.

When everything is said and done, the details are what tie everything together & the little things aren’t so little. They remind you of what the day felt like—the nerves, the joy, the quiet, the celebration. So yes, I’ll absolutely be there to capture your wedding kiss, first dance, cake cutting, etc., but I’ll also be there for the little things—& those might be some of the moments you cherish the most.
